About Evelyn Blumenberg

Evelyn Blumenberg is a Professor of Urban Planning and Director of the Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. Her research examines transportation and economic outcomes for low-wage workers, and the role of planning and policy in addressing transportation disparities.  

Professor Blumenberg was honored in 2014 by the Obama administration as a White House Champion of Change for her research on transportation access, employment, and poverty. Professor Blumenberg’s research has been supported by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, California Air Resource Board, California Department of Transportation, Mineta Transportation Institute, Southern California Association of Governments, UC Institute of Transportation Studies, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the U.S. Department of Transportation.  

Professor Blumenberg holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from UC Berkeley, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in urban planning from UCLA.

Housed at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, the Ralph & Goldy Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies is committed to addressing the pressing policy and planning issues in Greater Los Angeles. The center generates knowledge and action around issues of housing affordability, transportation equity and access to opportunities, and jobs and the regional economy. Lewis Center scholars and staff produce high-quality research, programs and events, and accessible publications for policymakers, officials, students, opinion leaders, and the public.
